Our requirements:

1) A Growth Mindset

At Student Innovators, we believe that anything is possible. We know that if we commit the time to learning and doing, we can become masters at anything and everything. Doing something we've never done before is exciting to us, and we jump at every opportunity to learn and grow.

2) Grit and Perseverance

Any organization will have its roadblocks and its challenges, especially new organizations with big ambitions. Our officers need to have the uncanny abilities to thrive in uncertainty, to independently create value, and to never give up even when times are hard.

3) Volunteered Time

As a non-profit, we are 100% run and supported by student volunteers just like you. We are looking for people who have the capability, the time, and the patience to build an organization from the ground up.

What you'll get:

1) Leadership Opportunities

Learn how to inspire and lead while also getting valuable hands-on experience. Our Officer program is designed to prepare you for real- life internships and jobs by giving you the tools and guidance to be your own leader and change-maker in an organization where every little effort makes a huge impact.

2) A Peer-Run Pathway

Ever think about what your dream job looks like? As an Officer, you'll have the chance to forge your own path and responsibilities. Our program pathway is meant for growth and the more you experiment, have initiative, and take risks, the quicker you'll climb.

3) An Irreplaceable Family

As long-term thinkers, SI Officers support each other and know that the effort we put in now means benefits taken later. We commit our time to building and growing an organization with a mission that we believe in, and we do it together as a team.

Officer FAQ

How much is the time commitment to be an Officer?

As a virtual-first student organization, we conduct our Officer program through a project-based structure. Some projects require more time than others, and there are some projects that require a considerable amount of time to complete.

A safe estimate for time commitment for a new officer would be anywhere from 5-10 hours a week. If you've worked to earn yourself in a higher position and have additional responsibilities, you could reasonably expect to commit more time to the organization.

What are the benefits to being an SI Officer?

Our Officer program is designed to prepare you for real-life jobs and internships by simulating how an actual company would operate. We have different departments, roles and responsibilities that mirror career roles and responsibilities, and a growth opportunities to move to higher responsibilities and titles within the organization.

If you're looking to level-up your career path and/or expand your career options, applying to become an SI officer would be one of the best ways on campus to do that. We've designed the program to be a stepping stone to your career so that you can get to where you want to be.

In addition, all of our Officers (and those who have applied to be officers) receive a free membership for the semester. So yes, even if you applied to be an officer and was turned down, you are still entitled to a complimentary SI membership and all the benefits of being a member.

What skills would I need to be an Officer?

There are different skills that are required within each of our six departments. For example, if you apply to be a Marketing Officer, an understanding of creating content is expected. Likewise, a Technology Officer would need to find herself to be comfortable with programming concepts and languages.

However, we take into strong consideration applicants with a Growth Mindset, a willingness to be coached, and the resourcefulness to learn on their own. So even if you don't have many skills yet, you can still be successful in our program if you have the confidence that you can figure things out.

Is this is a paid position?

No. As a non-profit, Student Innovators is completely run and managed by student volunteers and funded by membership fees and donations. That being said, we are an organization with big ambitions and an vision to form multiple chapters over the country, and if we can grow to a sustainable and healthy position, it is our intention to award scholarships to high-performing students that are working with SI to fulfill our mission.

What if I don't know which position is right for me yet?

That's completely fine, and you're still encouraged to apply. We're students too, and we understand that sometimes we simply don't know what we want to do. New Officers are placed into a rotation program in each department to get a taste of what's required for officers in each role. You'll be able to choose which department is right for you and specialize (or generalize) at a later time. In addition, while department projects are highly collaborative and multiple departments will work together often, if you ever want to switch to a different department we've made it easy for you to learn in a new position.

Just drank 126 cans of Red Bull, will I survive the night?

It's unlikely. We recommend that you go to the emergency room immediately and get help for your poor decisions. If you manage to survive the night, consider yourself lucky. Godspeed.
