So you want to join SI?
Great choice. Here's what you need to know.

Our requirements:

1) $35/semester membership fee

We use membership fees to fund student projects, just like yours. You want to build a flamethrower and need to buy parts? You want to dive into a some new software? You have a business idea and need a bit of initial capital? Our membership fee allows all of us to go out, experiment, and learn

2) Join or create your own group

The UTD community is amazing; there's a smorgasbord of amazing students whose interests are multitudinous. If you can't find the exact group, club, or organization you're looking for, start your own and we'll be there to support you. That's what a community does.

3) Complete a project every semester

With groups, events, and labs, it'll be easy to find and join in on a project, initiative, or activity that one of our members is working on. Or just start your own and we'll help you find team members to fill in some roles. After a couple of semesters, you'll amaze yourself at how far you've gotten.

What you'll get:

1) Exclusive access to all things SI

As a member, you'll have full access to all of our Groups, Events, and Labs. You'll have the autonomy to work on anything you'd like, and our members have the opportunity to submit a funds request if you need some money for a project. You'll also get exclusive member-only benefits as a thanks for being awesome.

2) Super comfy/stylish t-shirt

You'll get an awesome t-shirt that was designed, printed, and delivered by our own members. And no, we're not talking about those bulky and uncomfortable underwear-brand t-shirts. We're talking about silky smooth, good-looking, going-to-be-your-new-favorite-shirt type of t-shirts.

3) An innovation team

Our whole mission is about connection, collaboration, and creation, and so it only makes sense that we'll place you in a team where you'll get the opportunity to get to know different people from different majors, learn from them, and do some awesome things together.

Membership FAQ

Do I have to be a member to be a part of your community?

No. You can still check out and be involved in all of our groups, events, and labs, as well as be a part of our general community. You could even be involved in some of the projects our members are starting. Autonomy and initiative are incredibly important are we want everyone to realize that they have the agency to do whatever they want.

However, our members are the whole reason why we exist and we make sure they feel appreciated. They get access to exclusive member-only benefits and are part of our community and family. That's something you might want to be a part of.

How much is a membership to SI?

A Student Innovators membership is $35/semester. Since Student Innovators is a non-profit, this is considered a donation and you'll receive a receipt for tax purposes. With that you'll be a fully fledged member of our community and have full access to everything within our site and platforms.

What do you guys use the money for?

100% of the money from our membership fees goes directly into investing in our student members through the funding of projects, initiatives, events, and activities.

For example, if a member wants to build an Arduino project with her friends, or another wants to run an event on the Plinth and needs some Pizza, both of them can receive money from our fund. We also use the money to pay for subscriptions like Adobe Creative Cloud, Bubble, or MailChimp so that we can keep the organization running.

We have every intention that everything that our members give will come back to them in an exponential way.

Can you tell me more about the innovation team?

Every SI member is placed into an innovation team that consists of a peer-run mentor/mentee structure. We try to keep each team between 5 to 8 people, with either 1 or 2 mentors in each team. In this context, a mentor is simply someone who has been at UTD longer and is more familiar with the school and our organization, while a mentee is someone who is attending UTD for the first time or is a first time SI member.

For example, if you are an incoming freshman and a new SI member, you might be placed in a team with other new members and a mentor who might let you know all of the best study spots, the best elective classes at UTD, or some awesome groups and organizations that you could be a part of. When you come back as a sophomore, you'll be given your own team of mentees and share your experiences to help them have the best college experience possible.

The innovation teams are intended to help you connect with different people, and possibly collaborate with them on different projects (in order to create awesome things). They're meant to help you either transition into college life at UTD, or pass on your knowledge to those that come after you.

What constitutes as the completion of a project?

Pretty much anything that you've done that allowed you to grow and learn as either a professional or as a human counts as the completion of a project.

This could be you and a team developing a website, or you hosting an event, or even if you've just experimented with a new dish with your innovation team. You'll need to show proof (which shouldn't be hard if you've done something) and present it to one of our officers to have your project credit approved.

We promise that by the time you graduate, you'll surprise yourself at how far you've come by looking at all of the projects you've completed.

Just ate 52 pizza rolls, will I survive the night?

Those are rookie numbers, you gotta pump those numbers up! But yeah you'll be ok, it sounds like a typical night for a college student. If you want a real tip, get an air-fryer and those pizza rolls will be extra delicious :)
